A Burden Lifted

I’m not sure how I came to believe that Freebird’s was founded in Austin,TX. For years, I was guilt-ridden for choosing Chipotle, a national chain, over what I thought was a home-grown business. Today, however, after a visit to the Freebird’s website, I learned that the first Freebird’s franchise opened in 1987 in Santa Barbara, CA. The first Austin franchise didn’t open until 1999, and was preceded by two franchises in College Station.

Now, I can get my burritos from Chipotle without feeling like I’m betraying Austin. As an added plus, McDonald’s sold off its stake in Chipotle at the end of 2006, so my conscience is completely free to worry about something new.

The Return of The Ordinary American

This blog is actually a revival of my previous blog of the same name. I was able to import some of my more recent posts from that blog to this new one, but the remainder of the posts (dating back to 2004) can be found here. The link can also be found under the Blogroll section. Any references to that blog, or posts from that blog will be filed under a category entitled “The Ordinary American 1.0″.

It’s good to be back, and I hope that I can keep two blogs going. I also own Paternal Prose, where I blog about what it’s like to be a dad.
