About
I am a thirty-something suburbanite living in Austin, Texas. I have a wonderful wife and son, two cats, and a dog. Hobbies include guitar, banjo, weightlifting, and web development.
On this blog, I hope to address a fairly broad range of topics from the mundane, to politics and current events, to religion and beyond. Unless I state otherwise, I am not an expert on any of the subject matter presented here. If I do claim expertise anywhere, it is your responsibility as the reader to question my statements and call me out when appropriate. The spirit of this blog is partly reflected in the title, and I will do my best to adhere to that.
For those of you who are interested, the title of this blog derives from an expression that was overused by politicians in the 2004 presidential campaign. People like me were often referred to as “ordinary Americans”. I found the phrase to be condescending, and believe that such terminology only distances politicians from their constituents. It ended up as the title here for various reasons, which I hope will become evident as content develops.
I also must happily admit that I am a father. My son was born on April 17th, 2007, and has brought a great deal of joy to our lives. Previously, I ran a parenting blog in addition to this one, but found it laborious to maintain two blogs. To that end, you will see this blog peppered with posts about my parenting adventures. Hopefully, you’ll be able to relate to them on some level.
Thank you for stopping by, and please feel free to drop me a note.
